Lion Dance

Lion dance is a cultural activity that was traditionally related to kung fu schools. It is a strenuous physical activity that uses kung fu footwork and other martial arts related skills. Different kung fu styles have different types of lion heads and routines associated with them. Today tradition is fading and new modern routines have become popular.

The white crane kung fu academies practice traditional green Fujian style Lion dance. This type of lion is known as a fighting lion. Therefore, several lion dance routines have the lion battling traditional weapons such as spear, double swords and even big broadsword!

Lion dance is performed for various formal occasions including openings, official ceremonies, martial arts demonstrations, weddings, etc.
